Ultracentrifuge Service
About the service
The ultracentrifuge is designed to operate at extremely high speeds, typically in the range of 100,000g. This device is particularly useful for separating materials with closely related densities. Its applications include the separation of lipoproteins, cell appendages such as exosomes, removing turbidity from cloudy serums, measuring electrolytes, evaluating cell receptors, and conducting specialized tests in various industries and biotechnological research. The ultracentrifuge used in our laboratory is equipped with a vacuum system, allowing the rotor to spin at high speeds within a vacuum environment. Additionally, the rotor is cooled within this vacuum setting.
Our laboratory is equipped with a state-of-the-art ultracentrifuge manufactured by Vision Scientific. The centrifuge features a vacuum system and can achieve a spin speed of up to 100,000 g. It is equipped with three types of rotors, each with different volumes:
- Rotor with a capacity of 24 tubes, with each tube having a maximum volume of 1.5 ml
- Rotor with a capacity of 12 tubes, with each tube having a maximum volume of 13.5 ml
- Rotor with a capacity of 8 tubes, with each tube having a maximum volume of 38.5 ml
Important applications of the centrifuge
The ultracentrifuge technique has significant applications, including the isolation and characterization of exosomes from mesenchymal stem cells, which can contribute to advancements in therapeutic goals for diseases like autoimmune disorders and cancer. It is also employed in the isolation of lipoproteins, receptor assays, studying cell appendages, removing turbidity from cloudy serums, measuring electrolytes, and other specialized tests that require the capabilities of this type of centrifuge.
