PCR Services

Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a widely utilized method in molecular biology, enabling the amplification of a single or few copies of a DNA fragment with a specific sequence to thousands or millions of copies. PCR has become a common and essential technique in both clinical and research laboratories, finding applications in various fields. These applications include DNA cloning for sequencing, DNA-based phylogeny, gene function analysis, diagnosis of hereditary diseases, identification of genetic fingerprints (utilized in forensic science), and detection of pathogenic agents in DNA for diagnosing infectious diseases.
To examine gene expression accurately, the quantity of mRNA needs to be determined. However, PCR is primarily designed for DNA amplification rather than RNA. Therefore, the first step involves converting RNA into complementary DNA (cDNA) through the reverse transcription method, followed by DNA amplification.
Due to its simplicity and cost-effectiveness in amplifying specific DNA fragments, PCR is widely used in numerous fields as mentioned above. Its speed, ease of use, and the availability of a wide range of related products have attracted many professors and students for their studies and projects. Considering the high costs associated with PCR equipment, maintenance, and services, researchers and project managers often find it more affordable to utilize PCR laboratory services rather than acquiring the equipment themselves.
Project managers, master’s and doctoral students conducting research in the molecular field, as well as other research centers and universities, frequently rely on the consultation or technical services provided by PCR laboratories for their PCR-related needs.

The specific services
  • Designing specific primers to check mutation types, methylation patterns, gene expression tests (SYBR Green and TaqMan Probe) as well as microRNA expression tests (Stem-Loop and Poly A tailing)
  • Performing Conventional PCR, Nested PCR, and Methylation Specific PCR
  • RNA extraction from different tissues and cultured cells
  • DNA extraction from different tissues and cultured cells
  • Synthesis of cDNA for total RNA and specific microRNA
  • Detecting point mutations and small deletions using PCR-RFLP, ARMS-PCR, and TaqMan SNP methods
  • Examining gene expression (both absolute and relative) with two methods of SYBR Green and TaqMan
  • Conducting agarose gel electrophoresis

Location of PCR Laboratory:
The laboratory is situated on the second floor of Avicenna Research Institute, located within Shahid Beheshti University.

Working Schedule:
The laboratory operates from Saturday to Wednesday, between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

Service Policy and Costs:
The cost of tests or services will vary depending on the sample type and specific testing requirements. Therefore, upon the initial inquiry, the laboratory will provide information regarding the cost of the requested test.

Sample Submission:
To ensure smooth processing, please coordinate with the laboratory senior assistant at least 48 hours before sending the sample.
