Policy of the Office
The basic policy of Health and Biosafety Office includes creating a safe working environment for colleagues, protecting the environment in relation to the activities of Avicenna Research Institute, and promotion of individual’s health, and environmental protection through the establishment and implementation of management system.
Therefore, the Office always made the best attempts in order to implement health management system and HSE, and attract the participation of all employees in the implementation of relevant programs, which include full compliance with all safety, health and environment laws and instructions, responsible commitment, and performing activities with complete observance of safety health and environment principles.
Duties
The main duties and responsibilities in the Office:

Identification, evaluation, and prevention of all health, safety, and environmental hazards in the workplace and research areas

Planning and proper acting to prevent health, safety, and environmental hazards and take preventive and corrective measures to reduce risks

Increasing awareness, education and promotion of culture of community in observing HSE considerations

Determining the rules, requirements and regulations related to HSE and be accountable for their optimal and correct implementation
-
Control of biological and chemical harmful factors and preventing their possible hazard
-
Increasing awareness to reduce unsafe behavior, compiling all safety instructions and observing them in order to reduce hazardous chemical accidents

Following standard waste disposal methods in accordance with regulations and development of relevant instructions to reduce environmental hazards
Manager responsibilities:

Implementation of HSE policies

Development and ratification of regulations and instructions related to biosafety for groups, departments, laboratories, and affiliated units of the research institute

Making the necessary arrangements and laying the ground for the implementation of biosafety regulations

Developing and launching biosafety training courses for different groups such as professors, students, and staff in accordance with their executive activities in laboratories and workplaces

Performing biosafety assessments evaluating the activity and performance of employees

Supervising and surveillance on the implementation of all rules, regulations, and instructions
Responsibilities of the Office assistant:

Identification of all health, safety, and environmental hazards

Providing solutions to control health, safety, and environmental risks

Periodic visits to all research laboratories and affiliated centers and preparation of relevant checklists

Preparing reports related to biosafety, health issues, following up the results of reports, recording all incidents, and pursuing violations

Initial development and drafting health, safety, and environmental guidelines
-
Observing biosafety protocols and enactments
